Michigan Engagement Ring Laws
Do you have to give back an engagement ring in the state of Michigan?
My ex broke off our engagement about a month ago and he said "you can keep the ring". So I did. Since then, he has been harassing me with phone calls and text messages demanding christmas gifts back, and now I just received an email from his mom stating that he wants the ring back. Im trying to find some legal info on this. After all I've been through, I want to sell the ring and get away from these people. Now I'm reading that in some states there's some conditional law that says the woman has to return it. I live in Michigan. Does anyone know where I can find info on this in the state of michigan? To me, a gift is a gift. It's up to the recipient to do what they choose with it, right?

The ring is a promise to marry. You guys will not be getting married.
If you don't give the ring back - it's just an excuse for you to keep being harassed by him.
If you truly want to move on -- give him the ring back. Tell him never to call you again and walk away and be done with him.
The hassle of putting up with him further is not worth what you would get for selling the ring.
The Christmas gifts - are gifts he is not entitled to those. But I'd give the engagement ring back. It's worth it to be done with his worthless hide.
